ABOUT US

St. Joel School is a non-formal, community-based learning institution located in Kariobangi North, Nairobi. Since its founding in 2004, the school has been a beacon of hope for children from disadvantaged backgrounds, particularly those living in the Kariobangi and Mathare North informal settlements. Committed to inclusive and transformative education, St. Joel offers the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) from Pre-Primary through Junior Secondary, providing a strong academic foundation alongside life skills, mentorship, and emotional support. The school was created to address the urgent need for quality, affordable education in underserved areas, and over the years, it has empowered hundreds of children with opportunities they might not otherwise have had. Through compassionate teaching, community partnerships, and ongoing support services such as school meals and counseling, St. Joel continues to transform lives by ensuring that every child—regardless of their background—can access the education they deserve and build a brighter future.

Changing Lives Since 2004

  • Over 800 learners have passed through our school since inception.

  • 90%+ transition rate to higher education or vocational training.

  • Dozens of graduates are now in college, formal employment, or giving back to their communities.

  • We’ve reintegrated out-of-school children, especially orphans, street-connected youth, and children from single-parent households.
